2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee L
The Rundown
Jeep has really outdone itself with the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, the large version of the Grand Cherokee. The main difference between the Grand Cherokee and the Cherokee L is the addition of a third row. The best part about the third row is that it is two bucket seats combined. Instead of the traditional row that we are used to, Jeep changed it up. We really enjoy the change simply because the middle seat is rarely large enough for anyone to sit in, and it gives the extra seating while keeping the space comfortable. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L was a new offering in 2021 and it has since made waves. Favored for the extra space and non-traditional last row, it is impressive for how it looks inside and out. Not only because it is family sized but because it can take the family right off the road and onto mud, snow, sand, or rocks. Since it was all new in 2021, it has only a few enhancements in 2022 that we will cover. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L has been a frontrunner as a family SUV since it was offered last year, and we expect it to maintain this status for years to come.
What Is New in 2022?
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L’s first production year was 2021, since it was all new last year, not much changed except for the addition of quite a few screens. There is an option for a screen on the passenger side dashboard on Limited trim levels and up. There are additional screens for the back row, built into the headrests of the front two seats. These dual screen entertainment centers are run by Fire tv. A couple of package editions were added for the 2022 lineup. The Black Edition is available on the Limited trim, and it swaps out all chrome accents with black glossed ones and comes with 20 inch wheels. There is also a similar package for the Summit trim called the High Altitude edition, but with 21 inch wheels. To top it all off Jeep has added a few more colors to choose from in 2022, Hydro Blue, Midnight Sky, and Ember. We do not expect any significant changes to the Grand Cherokee L for a few more years.
What is the Interior On the Jeep Grand Cherokee L Like?
The Interior is quite spacious,as was intended for the Grand Cherokee L when they upgraded it to have more space and an extra row. The third row comes standard with two bucket seats but can be switched to a third-row bench if desired. If you prefer your Cherokee without the third row seat, check out the standard Jeep Grand Cherokee, which we review in a separate article. The lowest trim Laredo offers you the basic quintessential jeep, and the higher trims of Summit and Overland offer more choices. Once you get up to the Summit Trim you really are getting luxury and class. The materials on the dash and the technology are outstanding, making almost anyone comfortable and satisfied. At these trim levels other fantastic options are offered such as massaging front seats, premium leather upholstery, and even wood trim. The infotainment screen is quite large at 10.1 inches, and is quite user friendly. There is also the optional 10.3 inch passenger screen as we also previously mentioned. On top of that there are 2 more 10.1 inch screens offered on the back of the front chairs that second row passengers have control of. The Grand Cherokee L makes a huge case as the best family road trip vehicle you could possibly own with four screens and two to keep the kids entertained.
What Does the Jeep Grand Cherokee Drive Like?
This is one Jeep that we can say does not quite drive like other Jeeps. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L is impressive for its ability to drive comfortably and still maintain the potential for taking the entire family off the road. The Grand Cherokee L has two engine options, a V6 or a V8 engine. Both engines come paired with an 8 speed automatic transmission that flirts with perfection. The towing capability of the V8 is 7,200 pounds and the towing capability of the V6 is 6,200 pounds. The braking feels quite strong and safe for a family. The handling is nice and firm while cornering and is great for in-town driving when you need to pick up your children. The Grand Cherokee L also has the option to be built with an air suspension to make it even sportier and give it extra clearance when needed.
Summary
The Jeep Grand Cherokee L does it all. It can carry a family while being robust on and off the road. It has enough screens to keep every family member entertained and provide a level of sophistication. We believe anyone who purchases the Jeep Grand Cherokee L will be totally satisfied.
